03 · What decides a match

Same post, opposite direction.

Only employees in the same department, post and sub post are compared. The strongest matches are the ones where each of you wants the division the other is in.

Match results are indicative. Whether a mutual transfer is permitted, and whether it goes ahead, remains subject to applicable railway rules and the competent railway authorities.

04 · Before you sign up

The things people ask us first

  • Is this an official Indian Railways website?

    No. Rail Mutual is an independent platform and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Indian Railways, the Ministry of Railways, or any railway zone. We do not process or decide transfers — your own railway administration does.

  • Who can see my mobile number?

    Nobody browsing matches. Your mobile number and email are hidden on your profile. They are shared with one employee only, after the two of you have both agreed to connect.

  • Is it free?

    Creating your profile, browsing your matches and showing interest are free. A connection fee applies only when our team connects you with another employee, and you see the amount before you pay anything.

  • Will strangers start messaging me?

    There is no chat on Rail Mutual. Showing interest is the only signal there is, so nobody can send you messages.

  • Why do you need my HRMS ID?

    To keep one account per employee and keep fake profiles out of everyone's matches. It is never shown to other employees — and it is not your HRMS password.

  • Who is behind Rail Mutual?

    A small independent team building this for railway employees. Read more about us, or write to [email protected] — we reply Monday to Saturday, 10:00 – 18:00 IST.

Rail Mutual will never ask for your password, OTP, UPI PIN or card number — on any channel.

05 · Where we are today

Rail Mutual is new — and that is worth knowing before you join.

We are not going to show you a member count, because the platform has just opened and the number would not mean anything yet. Here is what is true instead.

  • Every profile records the same service details, so matching works from the day two compatible employees are both here.
  • Your profile keeps looking after you close the page — you are notified when a compatible colleague joins.
  • Nothing is charged until our team actually connects you with another employee.
  • Our lists of zones, divisions and posts are still being completed. If yours is missing, tell us and we will look into it.
  • After you sign up you get a ready-made message to post in your own railway groups — the colleague who wants your posting probably has not heard of us yet.

I got this link in a WhatsApp group. Is it safe?

Rail Mutual only ever asks for what is on the sign-up form: your name, mobile number, email, HRMS ID and a password you choose. We never ask for your OTP, UPI PIN, ATM card number or HRMS password — on any channel. If a message claiming to be from Rail Mutual asks for those, it is not from us.

Do I need to verify my profile before I can see matches?

No. You can create your profile and see compatible employees straight away. Verifying with your railway ID card is optional, and it helps your profile rank higher in other employees’ matches.

What happens if nobody matching me has joined yet?

Your profile keeps looking. When an employee in your post and sub post joins and wants the division you are in, they appear in your matches and you are notified. There is nothing to check back for.

Can I use Rail Mutual if I have not decided whether to move?

Yes. Creating a profile and browsing your matches costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Nobody sees your contact details, and you show interest only when you choose to.

Does Rail Mutual apply for the transfer for me?

No. Rail Mutual helps two employees find each other and, once you both agree, puts you in touch. Everything after that — the application, the approvals, the posting order — goes through your own railway administration under the applicable rules.

Which mobile number should I register with?

The number you actually use day to day. You log in with it, and it is how our team reaches you if you and another employee both want to connect. It is never shown to other employees while you are browsing.
